Assemblies must always be created or deleted explicitly in the target structure. An item that is an assembly but does not contain any items is still treated as an assembly. In this way, such an assembly is also used in SAP and an empty assembly is also created there.
An item can be converted to an assembly using the context menu command Convert to Assembly:

A placeholder position is inserted, which allows further maintenance of the assembly (Inserting items).

An assembly can also be exploded again. If the assembly already exists in the SAP structures and the target structure is applied to the SAP objects after such a explosion, the assembly is also deleted in the SAP objects.

This function is only possible if no more items are contained in the assembly, i.e. only the placeholder position is displayed.
