Maintaining the number ranges

A number range must be set up for ProProcess for both the runtime data and the definition data. The SAP standard transaction SNRO is available for number range maintenance.

Runtime interval

A new interval 01 must be maintained for the number range object /PCH/BPFRT. It is recommended that you create the interval from 1 to 9999999999.

Runtime object list interval

A new interval 01 must be maintained for the number range object /PCH/BPFOL. It is recommended that you create the interval from 1 to 9999999999.

Definition interval

A new interval 01 must be maintained for the number range object /PCH/BPFCU. Since the definition data is transported, it may make sense to maintain a different interval for each system (and possibly also for each client). This ensures that number collisions do not occur between systems. Depending on the number of systems, it is sufficient to maintain a different prefix number for each system in the first place (for example, 1000000000 - 1999999999, 2000000000 - 29999999999, and so on).

The number range interval 9999990000 - 999999999999 is reserved internally. The highest to-value released for the customer is therefore 9999989999.

The number range intervals are not transported automatically by default. It is not recommended that you transport the intervals because this overwrites the number status on other systems and clients. This is particularly problematic in multiclient development environments where the transport data is copied several times (transaction SCC1), since the number range on the target client is reset each time.

Client copies from subsequent systems or test clients (SCC1) which overwrites the number range for the process definition and can lead to number collisions and corrupt data. Especially for the number range interval /PCH/BPFCU.

Multi-client development environments where the transport data is copied multiple times (transaction SCC1), problematic because the number range on the target client is reset each time.

It is recommended to create the number range interval for /PCH/BPFCU exclusively in clients in which processes are also to be defined/modeled.
