Defining Objects

If external number assignment is used for document types, the material number will be used for the document number (may be changed by customizing exits). If the document is assigned to an organizational unit, a hyphen followed by the organizational unit is added to the material number. In particular, the document number is set if the following number assignment categories is set in the document type, provided the number has not already been set using an extension or a corresponding part or language document:

2 - Only external number assignment

4 - Only external number assignment with Exit

5 - External number assignment without number range check only

6 - Internal or external number assignment with exit

If long material numbers are used, the system checks whether the number created does not exceed the maximum length of the document number. If so, processing is terminated and a corresponding error is displayed.

Therefor all objects in one data package, with a document number derived from the material number must have a unique document type. The document key per document type and document number must be unique.

The following rules must be considered:

  • The assignment of an object to a data package is done via:

    • object identification, which determines the object type. As a consequence the object ID can only be used for one object type.

    • organizational unit

    • assignment of the object type to a data package in the customizing.

Following these rules, one object type, thus object ID can only be assignment once per configuration type to a data package.
