Families

Families (also called part families) are a group of materials which can be handled together by ProConfiguration and are always displayed as family in the configuration display.

Customizing

The following customizing tables and fields are relevant for the behavior during revisioning, versioning and status change within a family. The behavior can also be influenced with customer exits.

Family documents within a family are never handled by settings for multiple used documents.

Changes and extensions in families

A change number may only be used once in a family.

For example, in case of a revision on some or all family members, this change number must not be used for any other change of any family member before. Exception: If the family extension or the change of a family member occurs as one or several members are created or changed (status type Initial status or In work), the change number used for this action may be used.

Processing scenarios, which are allowing editing family documents or multiple used documents (within a family) should be avoided. Especially if customer exits are implemented for both actions (handling configuration type /handling configuration type with multiple usage) and these exits are setting different status and/or processing scenarios on the related materials.

Creation or extension of a family is only controlled by the cross-plant material status.
