Language Dependend Documents

ProConfiguration allows handling of language dependent documents. It distinguishes between a primary and secondary language. The language is managed in the part document as language key.

Which languages are used is freely definable in the ProConfiguration. Also language combinations can be defined for multi-language documents. As the language is saved in the part document, the key can have maximum three digits. Also system languages can be assigned to the ProConfiguration language/language combination, which will then be transferred automatically to the characteristics of a language dependent document.

The primary language can be set fix or dynamic, depending on the settings in the customizing. The performance of the  secondary languages can be controlled by object relevancies and object settings in the data package. In the object control of the processing scenarios is defined whether all languages, only the primary language or secondary language or exactly one language of the document shall be handled, e.g. in case of new creation or new versions.

Required steps to configure a language dependent document:

  • Basic settings: Selection of characteristic of additional document data to mark documents which are representing the main language. Only required if the language in an object can be selected dynamically. However sometimes it may be necessary to switch from fix to dynamic (e.g. internationalization) , therefor it is recommended to create and use this characteristic.

  • In case the system languages shall be transferred to a characteristic, the characteristic name must be defined in the relevant Language code characteristic in the basic settings.

  • Assignment of object languages to under option Language/language combination.

  • If required the system languages can be assigned to the language/language, which will then be transferred automatically to the corresponding characteristic of the language dependent document.

  • Eventually the documents of the secondary language will require a separate object relevancy. As example a primary document can be multi-lingual, however the main language must be set, the secondary languages are optional, but several languages are allowed.

  • Object definition of relevant object, whether the primary language shall be inquired before or after the object selection (field TlDoc/language).

  • Assignment of language to object, which shall be managed multi-lingual (Objects  Object languages).

  • In the objects of the data packages it may be necessary to maintain the secondary languages in the object relevancy and related settings.

As a last step, the object control of the processing scenarios must be maintained. It is possible to define whether a processing scenario is valid for all languages, only the primary or secondary language or for one specific language only.

Please note that no language selection on hidden objects by the user is possible (acc. settings or filter).
